9 out 10 kids from the 1980s will remember this image. The characters, the sound and the stories.
Vikram Betal, an adaptation of stories from Baital Pachisi (a collection of 25 stories in Sanstrik), aired on Doordarshan in the year 1988. Yaa that’s long time ago…
The film Vikram Vedha is an action film based on these stories. It is directed by director duo Pushkar – Gayatri who also directed the original in Tamil. (2017).
The Hindi version stars The Greek God, Hrithik Roshan as Vedha, the antagonist, reprising the role of Vijay Sethupati in the original and Saif Ali Khan stepping in the shoes of R Madhvan, playing the main protagonist.
Well, another copy from the South? Yes and No.
A copy ,BUT with a big difference! what differentiates this movie from the others which were adapted/copied is, that the directors are the same, they are presenting the same story in a different language. The brains from which the idea popped out are the same. So, it’s definitely not a copy or an adaption. Its not a work of any Lazy Entrepreneur 😊
Vikram Vedha like its preceder, is a neo-noir action film… a genre which is generally a shady drama with a twist dark wit. A genre which resonates with the Hindi film industry.
I have seen the original Tamil version and there is only one word to describe it… Fantastic… The South film industry is always technically ahead of its times , definitely ahead of its Hindi sibling.
The Tamil version was made with a budget of Rs 11 crore (in 2017) and did net collections of around Rs 80 crore. It was a super duper hit. The Hindi version is made with a whopping Rs 175 crore… the most expensive film of Jr. Roshan… The scale of the Hindi version is grandeur than its original…
It was rumoured that Hrithik said no to shoot in Uttar Pradesh and an entire Lucknow had to be created in Dubai… which obviously was denied by Reliance entertainment, one of the producers of the film.
Vedha’s characterisation is more powerful than Vikram’s. The credit also goes to Vijay Sethupati’s causal swag in the movie. Though Madhavan does not lag behind. His charisma is intriguing and he had put a sexy charisma in his character.
It would be very interesting to see how these two Bollywood bigwigs essay the roles which would be promptly critiqued and compared with their Southern counterparts’…
The teaser was on out on August 24 and was an instant hit. Then came the trailer which stamped VV as the most awaiting film after Brahmastra. Hrithik’s looks are riveting… Speaks Avadhi… and not Bihari as most tweeples believe it… His looks -with an intricately designed kurta, stunning beard and his body language is amazing. The ruffled hair, blood on the body and the gawks adds up to the Vedha looks.
Whilst Saif Ali Khan has always been the underdog. I rate him high as an actor as he has given some fabulous performances. His raw looks and pumped-up physic look amazing, and we are really here for some breath-taking battle between them.
The other cast include Radhika Apte, Rohit Saraf, Sharib Hashmi and Yogita Bihani.
Come September 30th and we will be in awe of this eye catchy spectacle, with some outstanding background scores.
It is Hrithik’s 25th film and is going to be one of his biggest releases… 4100+ screens in India and more than 100 odd countries. The producers have strategized an affordable pricing strategy (which they have not disclosed) for the cinema goers, so it does not make a deep dent in their pockets…
But what about the popcorns…????
Just a few days more to guess how Vikram Betal gets aligned in the plot of Vikram Vedha…
PS: If you have not seen the original till now, delay it for few more days… First see this.
Happy viewing…
Will review it as and when I see it… But don’t miss to read the third and the last part of
The Lazy Entrepreneur (Cheese and Mayo)…coming soon…
looks good!
